I first packed my bags and set out for the wild blue yonder in December 2006. I have pretty much been travelling ever since, with only a couple of short breaks back home (Sydney, Australia) mostly for purposes of Visa procurement.
Throughout my journeys I am constantly meeting people who are amazed at how long I have been travelling and ask me how I do it. It never ceases to surprise me that many people think that travel is too expensive and is a dream that they can never achieve. This puzzles me because there are a myriad of ways to make travel extremely affordable and attainable, I in fact spend less living around the world than I would do back at home. I would like to share these ideas, along with various bits of travel advice I have learned through the years, and also some updates on what I am currently up to (and where I am!).
I firmly believe that travel is the most valuable thing a person can do. Travel unlocks the world, it reveals who you really are, it makes the world a smaller and less frightening place, it cultivates understanding across cultures, opens your mind to new and unfamiliar things, makes you appreciate what you have at home but also allows you to question the way you do things with a more objective mind. Travel is one of the best investments you can make and I firmly believe that if the world were made up of more travellers, it would be a much more tolerant and harmonious place.
I hope that every person who stumbles across my little blog may be inspired to set out and see the world, even if it is just to go and visit the next town or city along from yours, it all starts somewhere!
May the thoughts on these pages help you begin a fantastic adventure…
Sincerely,
Tight Arse Traveller
