Most women find it hard to leave the make up behind, but it really does take up a lot of space in your bag, plus there is the potential of big leakages throughout your luggage and the issue of liquid limitations with carry on bags on flights. Here are a few suggestions for cutting back on your beauty items.
1. Buy mineral make up. It is lighter, lasts much longer, better for your skin and best of all as it is a powder you will not have to worry about liquid foundations spilling through your bag or causing delays passing security at the airport.
I find mineral make up is also more versatile. You can use a thicker layer first as a concealer, then brush on a lighter layer for foundation, and then you can also use it as a highlight, use some in the inner corner of the eyes to brighten the area.
2. Bring only the basics. Create a natural look, it will suit you more for travelling at any rate as well as save space. You can use your mineral base as above for concealing, foundation and highlighting. If you choose a natural coloured mineral blusher in a brown tone you can then use it as a blush, a bronzer and also an eye shadow depending on how thick you layer it. This will give you a nice natural look that can be achieved using only two products.
3. Bring only one ‘luxury’ extra. While a simple natural look might serve you well during the day, if you want to dress it up at night time just bring one luxury extra that you can not do without. Perhaps an eye-liner OR mascara OR lipstick… But try to limit it to only one item.
It’s time to cut down on that massive make up bag and reduce it to the bare essentials. Remember that for each item that you DON’T pack, there is a tiny bit more space in your bag for shopping or souvenirs overseas. At any rate, if you decide when you are travelling that you really can’t go without that mascara you left at home, you can always buy a new one abroad.
